R. Jeff Lee and Carol Lee were raised on the island of O'ahu, Hawaii. Early on, this brother and sister learned to respect and appreciate the special beauty and spirit of their island home's traditions, culture and art.

Jeff is an accomplished Hawaiian musician and an avid waterman who enjoys the sports of surfing, spear fishing and canoe paddling. His sister, Carol, also loves watersports, hiking and shares the family's passion for Hawaii's natural beauty. It is nature's forms observed in this environment, both mauka (mountain) and makai (ocean), that the Lee's now use as the foundation of their designs.

Jeff Lee's love of pottery began quite by chance. While in junior high school, an introductory course in ceramics developed into a passion for the medium and the creative process. He continued his study of ceramics throughout his years at Iolani School, trained in the arts of sculpture, drawing, painting and design. Lee spent many years as a production potter for Bruning Pottery in Seattle, Washington and Tropical Clay in Hawai'i. These experiences have honed his skills to a level that allows him freedom of creativity without the limitations of specific techniques.

Carol Lee's background in art is in textiles. She has created beautiful hand painted silks, sewn original quilt designs, as well as designs fabrics for aloha attire and t-shirts. She now brings her textile artistry to the medium of ceramics, executing her exquisite designs on our vessels of clay.

The Lee's work out of their studio, Lee Ceramics, on the North Shore of O'ahu. Here they draw from the elements that surround them - - Mount Ka'ala and the Waianae Range in Mokule'ia in their many shades and moods, the rural countryside's flora and fauna. It is the timeless beauty of their Hawaiian home and surroundings, overlaid with its traditions and culture, that are the Lee's enduring inspiration.
